Central Nervous System

This station is designed to interest students in understanding the central nervous system. These activities are intended to engage students in a discussion regarding careers that involve health (neurologist, neurological surgeon, psychologist and etc.) and research (neuroscientist, neuroanatomist, neuropathologist, psychiatrist and etc.).

The central nervous system functions similar to the way the complex communication and electrical systems function in a city. It is in charge of communicating and coordinating both the voluntary and involuntary functions of the body including movement and and even breathing. Think about the way traffic lights function, or the entire street lighting system. Consider how data and voice information are communicated as well as how systems are triggered to respond to emergencies.
